Nathan's Hot Dog-Eating Contest Crowns Winners

In addition to barbecues, fireworks and drunken festivities, Fourth of July also means, for those who follow or participate, Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest. Joey Chestnut won for the sixth straight time with 68 hot dogs and buns, while Sonya 'The Black Widow' Thomas also defended her title with 45 hot dogs and buns.

Thomas' previous record was 41 hot dogs and buns in the allotted 10 minutes. Chestnut held the event record of 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, while Thomas aimed to beat her own record of 41 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. Specifically, she'd said he aimed for 45.

The contest has been held in New York for 97 years. The winners receive a $20,000 cash prize.
