Colbert: Romney Finally Connecting With Regular Folks'By Insulting Them In Front Of Rich Donors

Pundits have made much ado about Mitt Romney's connection with regular, middle-class Americans ' or lack thereof. On Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert was glad to see that Romney has finally rid himself of that image by appealing to regular folks.

'by insulting them in front of wealthy donors at a fundraiser. At that fundraiser, in Mississippi, Romney shed his 'detached, tone-deaf, body-snatching pond creature' perception, with the remarks:

I know that people in this room are probably doing relatively well, relative to folks across this country. But not everyone in America is doing so well right now, it's tough being middle class in America right now. The waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room and offer us refreshments, they're not having a good year.

'I'm guessing their year felt worse and worse as the night went on,' Colbert observed. He went on to note that that technique is how a candidate connects with average people: 'There's nothing blue-collar Joes like more than having their struggles pointed out in a room full of rich people they are serving.'

He then went on to demonstrate just how appealing that tactic is by offering his intern a chance to 'drink in the sympathy.' (Read: pity.)

Take a look, via Comedy Central:

  • That's no joke..Poor republicans love to be humiliated by the rich!

  • Jobless claims are rising.

Home sales are down again, and foreclosures still at record levels.

    Consumer prices are skyrocketing.

Unemployment has been above 8% for more than three years, and is still rising.

Millions of unemployed Americans aren't even included in those figures because they are so discouraged, they have given up on looking for work.

And Obama's top priority?  To get a look at more of his opponents tax forms.  And holding more fundraisers than both of his predecessors put together.

No wonder Obama's poll numbers are dropping.  Voters can see what's going on.
