Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) took to the Senate floor on Wednesday to defend a longtime aide to Sec. Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, from the accusations made by some members of Congress that she has links to the Egyptian Islamist political movement, the Muslim Brotherhood.

'Recently, it has been alleged that Huma Abedin ' a Muslim-American ' is part of a nefarious conspiracy to harm the United States by unduly influencing U.S. foreign policy at the department of state in favor of the Muslim Brotherhood and other islamist causes,' said McCain.
Without naming her in his Senate floor speech, Sen. McCain was defending Abedin from accusations levied by the Center for Security Policy and advanced by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), among others members of Congress, that the Muslim Brotherhood had infiltrated several U.S. government institutions.
Bachmann told a radio host in June that she believed 'there has been deep penetration in the halls of our United States government by the Muslim Brotherhood.' When a request for clarification was made by her colleague Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), Bachmann submitted a letter in which she expressed concern about Abedin's financial connection to the Brotherhood.
'These allegations about Huma Abedin, and the report from which they are drawn, are nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable citizen, a dedicated America and a loyal public servant,' McCain continued.
Abedin, wife of former Democratic New York Rep. Anthony Wiener, began working for Hillary Clinton in the White House in 1996 and has served as her aide throughout her career as a Senator from New York and continues to work for her today in the U.S. State Department.
'Huma Abedin represents what is best about America,' said McCain. 'The daughter of immigrants who has risen to the highest levels of our government on the basis of her substantial personal merit and her abiding commitment to the American ideals that she embodies.'
'I am proud to know her,' McCain continued. 'And I am proud ' even with some personal presumption ' to call her my friend.'

Where's this guy been?

WTF is wrong with Michelle Bachamann?
-
McCain: American Hero
-
This is classic John McCain. Just when you think he goes of the deep end of right-wing extremist philosophy and paranoia (government, illegal immigrants and minorities). Once in a while a glimmer of reasoning and well thought out logic combined with critical thinking comes forth from his brain. Bravo Sen. McCain!! for showing a side of humanity and fairness rarely seen from your party.
-
What has happened to the Republicans. It is as if you have to be a fool, ignorant and dumb to gain membership. Michelle Bachman is more likely to be a member of the KKK than Huma who is married to a Jew to have links with the Muslim Brotherhood. Does anyone in the GOP have a brain?
-
One look at the googly eyes should tell you.
-
Wow, new Birther and Muslim conspiracies in the news today.
Way to stay on message, GOP!!! lol
-
Such outright speaking, deserves unreserved clapping and praise.
-
Michelle Bachman needs to be disciplined by the House.
-
McCain woke up from his deep sleep. How about returning to maverick status as opposed to senior citizen teabagger.
-
So, the article neither gives details on why Bachman thinks she has ties to the Brotherhood, nor does McCain provide details disputing those 'facts'. Was Bachman labeling Abedin based on rumors or is there some (obscure or not) tie that McCain could have explained away? I'm a fan of Abedin, in the sense she's been known to be a valued and extremely competent aide to Clinton (who happens to have one of the best and most challenging jobs in the world) since the late 90's, not to mention she's married to perhaps the biggest turd on the planet ' talking about Abedin, not Hillary, though she also is married to a turd :)

We missed him on the Disclosure Act; but he is correct on this issue!
-
Thank you Senator McCain. Appreciate your integrity.
-
Since when has McCain become a liberal?
Anyone with an ounce of brain cells knows that Michele Bachmann is spot on with her analysis.
-
This is the McCain I would have voted for in 2000.
-
Pandering to the far right.
-
My sentiments exactly. McCain swerves between being a stand-up guy and cynical political hack or a petulant old man. But he did the right thing and stood up and denounced the vicious attack on Huma Abedin. Boy, I wish more us ' left, right, and center' would do this.
-
To answer your question, I would have to say no.
-
Better yet whats wrong with the people that elected Her.
-
Bachman is a total moron and a disgrace to congress. Her and those like her have ruined the gop. After they lose in Nov. maybe the party bosses will wake up and primary her ass. It's representatives like her that prevent anything from happening in congress.
-
The easier question might be, what is right about Michelle Bachmann.
-
This is the McCain we love! Thank you Senator McCain for standing up to the teabaggers and telling the truth.
-
With his propensity for knee jerk reactions imagine what his response to 9/11 would have been. 2001/2002 was chaotic enough as it was.
-
Isn't the reason why Hilary Clinton's motorcade was tomatoed was because people there saw the reports that Bachmann was spewing?
-
How does he keep the oatmeal from falling out of his mouth?

Bachmann wears the tin foil hats for a reason. She is a complete and utter loon
-
it's amazing what gets this old coot excited. is more than happy to smackdown a fellow republican when she makes a comment that he doesn't agree with but not a peep of criticism when the Obama campaign calls the republican presidential nominee a felon. a man he endorsed but is perfectly happy to let the felon accusation stand. way to go McCoot!

While Huma Abedin is a small part of it, i assume that she will be used as a red herring to discredit these claims, her role and marriage will be used by liberals to tar anybody who questions the goals of the Muslim Brotherhood, the reality is both of her parents were higher-ups in the Muslim Brotherhood and so is her brother, there have been many documents seized by the F.B.I that have detailed the MB's plan for N American infiltration, including coercion operations, for the full report, just google 'Team B sharia'.
I don't know what Abedins goals are, but i recall not to long ago you couldn't join the CIA if you were a first generation immigrant. Now a women who has extensive family ties to radical islamist movements has access to classified information?. As for her marriage it's one of laughable convenience and a sham. When Clinton was a senator in NY and Weiner an aspiring politico there were many rumors of a lesbian relationship between Clinton and her aide, it's not to hard to imagine this was hatched for political convenience. As we saw from Weiner's conduct he had no desire or interest in his wife. Does that make her a mole? it would be foolhardy not to check
