Lead Investigator: Zimmerman Targeted Trayvon Martin Based On Hoodie, Not Race

» comments

New information was released about the Trayvon Martin case today, including photographs of the hooded sweatshirt Martin was wearing the night of the shooting ' as well as the lead investigator's conclusion that George Zimmerman targeted Martin based on his race, but his entire. Meaning, the hoodie.

In the newly released documents, Sanford police investigator Christopher Serino said he believes Zimmerman pursued Martin because he was wearing a hoodie, not because Martin was black. Serino 'told the FBI that gangs in Sanford, referred to in the community as 'goons,' typically dressed in black and wore hoodies. Serino described Zimmerman as overzealous and having a 'little hero complex,' but not a racist.'

Additionally, police officers were conflicted in reports of Zimmerman's injuries (following the incident). Documents 'show that some officers thought Zimmerman's nose was broken, but others didn't. The officers agreed that Zimmerman, 28, had cuts on the back of his head.'

Zimmerman is facing a second-degree murder charge following the shooting that took place in February.
