On Sunday morning, President Obama commemorated Veterans Day by hosting a breakfast with veterans at the White House, along with First Lady Michelle Obama, and then by participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknowns. Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden were also in attendance. Following the laying of the wreath, President Obama also delivered remarks at the Arlington Memorial Amphitheater.
Veterans Day, which was originally called 'Armistice Day' after the armistice that ended World War 1, is a solemn American holiday, and the sober, dignified ceremony at Arlington reflected that.
