Plouffe was asked about the administration's response to those attacks and why the White House has commissioned an investigation that will not reveal their findings until after the election. Gregory asked if that delay was deliberate, to which Plouffe replied that the investigation has to be done thoroughly and correctly rather than quickly.
Finally, Plouffe said he was dismayed by Republican efforts to politicize these attacks.
'You look back at 2000 in October, the USS Cole bombing took place in the weeks before that presidential election,' Plouffe began. 'What then-governor Bush said was, 'we need to speak as one voice.' And, really for that entire campaign, then Dick Cheney said 'we need to speak with one voice.''
'I do think that the politicization of this has been unprecedented,' Plouffe concluded.

Well the way Gregory posed the question was very loaded. It makes it seem as though Obama has intentionally postponed the investigation to win an election. My point was that Republicans also have a 'dog in this fight', but still agreed along with Democrats to conduct the investigation after the election. Thus, it's dishonest for Gregory to frame the timing of the investigation in that context given that BOTH sides have agreed to that date. Morally speaking, whether it's right to hold the investigation after the election is a different debate for a different day.
