New NBC/WSJ Poll Shows Obama, Romney In Dead Heat

Ahead of Monday's third and final presidential debate, with just over two weeks left in the race, a new NBC/WSJ poll shows the presidential race is tied nationally ' with both President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney at 47 percent among likely voters.

The last NBC/WSJ poll, which was conducted prior to the debates, showed Obama with 49 percent, versus Romney's 46 percent.

Among 'the wider pool of all registered voters in this new survey, Obama is ahead of Romney by five points, 49 percent to 44 percent.' Obama leads among women (51 percent to 43 percent), Romney leads among men (53 percent to 43 percent) ' and the two are 'essentially tied' among voters in the Midwest.

RealClearPolitics, which compiles an average of the polls, also shows Obama and Romney tied.

  • I think there needs to be a campaign rule that states all polls publish their results one the same day once a week.

Yes we know the race is close and yes depending on which poll it is Obama or Romney lead each other within the margin of error, barring some great disaster on either side, it probably won't change in the next few weeks

  • Now this poll seems more accurate. Can't trust some of these other polls

  • A commenter on TPM this morning is very enlightening.
'Two weeks before the 2004 election, the NBC/WSJ poll had Bush and Kerry tied at 48 among likely voters. However, Bush was ahead by 2 points among registered voters. We all know how that turned out.'
Sadly, we're all still suffering from how that turned out.

  • The key to this election is whether the Democrats will be able to turn out their base. The Party of NO realizes this and this is why they have done everything in their power to keep the vote down through their fake, voter fraud initiatives.

  • Here's another point made by another commenter on TPM:
'FYI:IA Dems currently have a 55,100 votes cast advantage ' 53% higher than the advantage at this point in 2008.
NC: Dems lead GOP by 802k reg voters; 6k new Dems added since yesterday ' higher than this point in '08. '
The question you should always ask yourself is this; why would someone register to vote and then not vote? It's like buying a ticket to a concert and then, not going.

  • The electoral college is the only thing that matters. At this point, the race is obviously very close but the president has only to get OH, WI and IA to win, and he continues to have leads in those states.

That said, voter turnout is the big unknown and could decide the race.

  • I thought Mitt Romney said he only needed 50.1% of the vote?

Are you saying he doesn't know what he's talking about?

  • Romney is leading the popular vote in most polls, and losing the electoral vote. It will be hilarious to see the parties do a complete 180 from the 2000 elections when liberals were calling for an end to the electoral college and conservatives were praising it. What would be even better is if they tied in the electoral vote. If that is the case, Romney would win the election because they allow 1 vote per state in the House of Reps (dominated by Republicans) and the vice president would most likely be Joe Biden (because the senate votes on the vice president, and democrats currently control that)

  • Obviously, I hope President Obama wins the popular vote. But if he loses the popular vote, but wins the Electoral College, I can not wait to hear the wingnut response based upon how they reacted in 2000.

  • At the time what you are saying was true, it was assumed Obama would win Pennsylvania. If Romney wins Pennsylvania, and he is currently now ahead by 2 percentage points, Obama almost certainly would lose even if he wins the states you mention.

  • My thoughts exactly.
The Obama administration just used Bush v Gore in their argument for Ohio.

  • In fact, I guarantee that there will be talk of armed rebellion and receding from the union.

  • This is good news for the press I would think .

How very fortunate that the race got close and exciting and'''uggg

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY !

  • Or like showing up in the state senate to vote on a bill, and then only voting 'present'.

  • Romney ahead? LOL http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/pa/pennsylvania_romney_vs_obama-1891.html

  • >>Pennsylvania, and he is currently now ahead by 2 percentage points,<<

The view is lovely on Bullsh!t Mountain.

  • In other words, Romney is way ahead'.
