Mayor Cory Booker Calls President Obama's Bain Attacks 'Nauseating'

Newark Mayor Cory Booker sat in on today's Meet the Press panel, and during a long discussion on the economy's impact on the 2012 presidential election, Booker made it clear he thinks the election should be focused on the economy and not on 'nauseating' 'crap' that has been dominating the news cycles recently. He condemned not just the Republicans' attacks on Reverend Wright, but Democratic attacks on private equity firms to hit Mitt Romney.

David Gregory observed that the attacks against Romney now are trying to make him out to be a real-life Gordon Gekko of sorts. Booker said he's been in contact with the White House and working with the Obama reelection team, and he's been keeping the focus on the president's economic and health care accomplishments.

Booker then made it quite clear he has no patience for the kind of attacks being thrown around by both parties in the presidential race.

'This kind of stuff is nauseating to me on both sides. It's nauseating to the American public. Enough is enough. Stop attacking private equity, stop attacking Jeremiah Wright. This stuff has got to stop, because what it does is it undermines, to me, what this country should be focused on. It's a distraction from the real issues. It's either going to be a small campaign about this crap, or it's going to be a big campaign, in my opinion, that the American public cares about.'

  • What a good guy.
And he shovels driveways, and saves people from burning buildings.
    What a good guy.

  • Two Dems with sense : Cory Booker and Steve Rattner.

Booker :'If you look at the totality of Bain Capital's record, they've done a lot to support businesses, to grow businesses ''

    Rattner:
'So, yeah, I do think to pick out an example of somebody who lost their job unfortunately, this is part of capitalism. This is part of life,' Rattner said. 'And I don't think there's anything Bain Capital did that they need to be embarrassed about.'

  • If there were a ton more Democrats like this guy, I'd be a Democrat. There is a great documentary about him out there and how he fought the corrupt NJ Democratic machine in Newark to get elected. And, he's not a rubber stamp on the teacher unions. The Democrats need more guys who can and will take on the unions and the trial lawyers.

  • OK, I do not think that Bain Capital is really comparable to Wright, but perhaps it is comparable to Resko, or Obama cozying up to Ayers, something like that. I would completely agree that taking Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Tony Resko, Obama is a Muslim, Obama is not a citizen, Ayers (did I miss any?) off the table, along with criticism of the Mormon faith, and Bain Capital, would be a very excellent development in our political environment.  Its sort of like trading properties in monopoly, eh, gloves?

  • I love Mayor Booker. A right good Mayor and a REAL one.  We could sure use him on the federal level.

  • So let me get this straight'. Willard can use Bain as his main reason for being elected (I'm a guy who turns around businesses and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs while doing it!) but Democrats can't talk about it or question it? Sounds about right!!!! Oh, and Obamao better not spike the ball with Bin Laden anymore' that hurts our feelings!!

  • Yup, you have it right.

    #Mitt2012

  • Sounds a lot like Palin's story prior to being tapped, and mocked, as VP nominee.

  • The headline doesn't match the video.  Although one could make an inference, Mr Booker did not say what the headline said.  Mediaite is just another site copying the 'Drudge' model of misleading headlines to attract hits.
