NBC News's Meet the Press anchor David Gregory inadvertently violated Washington D.C. law when he displayed an extended capacity magazine on his program on December 23, 2012. On Wednesday, the District's prosecutor announced that they were investigating the infraction on Meet the Press.

According to a report in The Washington Post, Gregory is being investigated by the District's Office of the Attorney General for violating the law by displaying the assault rifle magazine on national television.
The infraction is a misdemeanor in the United States' Capitol, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Washingotn D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier's spokesperson told The Post in an email that 'the case has been presented to the OAG for a determination of the prosecutorial merit of the case.'
