According to a report in today's New York Post, Chelsea Handler has been warned by her bosses at Comcast to steer clear of making jokes about Matt Lauer and other Today Show hosts, past and present.
Last week, Handler made a joke about Al Roker's now infamous 'I pooped my pants' incident on Chelsea Lately that included a dig at the rocky relationship between Lauer and former Today Show host Ann Curry. After playing a clip from Roker's Dateline NBC interview, Handler told the following joke to huge laughs from her audience.
'This isn't the first time a Today Show cast member was in the news about this sensitive subject. For years it was common knowledge that Matt Lauer spent every morning [shitting] all over Ann Curry.'
Comcast, which owns both NBC and the E! network, was not as amused. A source told the New York Post, 'Chelsea's writers were warned to lay off Matt. They don't want them making more fun of Matt and the Ann Curry situation right now.' Savannah Guthrie was officially named as Curry's replacement back in June of 2012 and since then Lauer has taken on much of the blame for her departure.
