Al Roker ended up as the subject of a story on the Today Show this morning after his revealing Dateline NBC interview 'caught fire online' yesterday. Willie Geist apologized to Roker for bringing it up, but seemed to think they had no choice given the viral nature of the story.
Apparently unaware of how much the American people enjoy a good celebrity sharting story, Roker responded, 'I'm just kind of amazed that this is such a big deal.' He quickly tried to steer the story in a more serious direction, saying he was just trying to emphasize the risks of gastric bypass surgery.
Roker went on to say that he understands how these stories grow. 'One website picks it up and then everybody does.' But he made sure to point out that the fateful story about his visit to the White House appears in his new book Never Goin' Back: Winning the Weight-Loss Battle For Good, which has been out for over a week. 'But of course, nobody reads at these websites.'
All of the attention Al Roker is getting can only help his book sales. Never Goin' Back shot up to #52 on Amazon's rankings as of this morning and can only go higher from there. If he was willing to casually share a story about 'pooping his pants' on Dateline NBC, just imagine what other juicy details are hiding in its pages.
