Trayvon Martin Attorney: Family 'Outraged' That Zimmerman's 'Self-Serving' Apology Helped Secure Bail

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin's family, said the family was 'outraged' by George Zimmerman's 'self-serving' apology during his bond hearing on Friday morning.

Martin's father, Tracy Martin, he said, was especially upset. 'All throughout the hearing, Tracy Martin had tears in his eyes as he watched the killer of his son,' Crump said. 'And it was devastating that he got to give a self-serving apology to help him get a bond. They were outraged about that.'

During the hearing, Zimmerman addressed the family, saying:

I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am and I did not know if he was armed or not.

Saying 'it was very painful,' Crump explained that Martin's family did not want to speak with Zimmerman ahead of the trial.

  • Looks like Zimmerman is gonna have a tough trial.
The initial aggressor usually goes down in flames in murder cases such as this. Zimmerman is in need of some good luck because the odds are stacked against him big time.

  • But but but ba ba ba'.I thought all they wanted was just an arrest and a fair hearing.
Now they don't even want to see him get bail'.?
They are 'outraged' that he even got to speak.

They will get their trial but they may not like the outcome.
Zimmerman is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty and the bloody photo does not help them.

  • Weren't the parents upset that Zimmerman hadn't apologized? I feel bad for the parents but they better brace themselves to the fact that their son may have initiated the physical altercation while Zimmerman was just asking him what he was doing there. Good chance Zimmerman gets off.

  • So, lets get this straight;
Treyvons Mom gives an interview asking three questions. 1. Did Zimm know Treyvon was a minor, 2, Did zimm know he was unarmed, and 3, was Zimm sorry.
Zimm offers to meet with the parents to answer these questions face to face.
    The Family says no.
    Zimmerman answers them in court.
And the Martin family attorneys are outraged?

  • Zimmermann said in the police call that he thought Trayvon was in his late TEENS! Looks like he lied in court!

  • What Zimm said was, that he thougt Treyvon was a couple years younger than him. Wouldnt late teens be a couple of years younger than mid 20's?

  • There will be a long way too go this case and there is undoubtably a lot more evidence to come out.

The picture may be monumental or it may be incidental depending on the nature of other evidence.

A Second Degree Murder Charge from the State Prosecutor is not going to be distracted by any so called Media Frenzy.

  • 'Self serving.'

Ya think? What was he supposed to do, fall on the floor and blubber, 'I am not worthy'?

So, by this reasoning he's not entitled to a statement at his bond hearing? He chose to use his -or part of it ' to apologize to the family and now they're outraged.

What happened to all that 'justice' they were so concerned about?

  • I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how
old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am and I did
not know if he was armed or not.

What kind of attorney advices his client to spew such stupidity?!

    I did
not know if he was armed or not.

So, a ****** walking around, armed, deserves to be shot?

Maybe an older ****** walking around, armed, deserves to be shot?

Maybe just a ****** walking around, unarmed, deserves to be shot?

  • How do you know Zimmerman is innocent'were you there?

  • Was Ben Crump speaking English? ' How can a Man be an attorney and still not know how to pronounce words correctly?    Is 'dey' a real word?

  • I think you are deliberting mischaracterizing their objections to the process.  They were 'outraged' not because of the fair hearing but that Zimmerman used a bond hearing to apologize.  After 50 days and to use that context'when he is seeking his release and in a venue in which Trayvon's parents could not respond'he issued an apology.  That is offensive and so is your post.

  • Actually if someone came at me with a gun,I'd try to knock him out too.
You know, before he shoots me and I'm dead or something.
The photo doesn't change a thing.
    Just saying.

  • Ever heard of a rhetorical question?

  • Zimmerman is 28.  A couple is two.  Keep reaching, Jon.

  • By the way, I see that they're still using a poicture of Tryvon that has no resemblence to what he looked like when this occurred. It's several years old.

    I wonder why?

  • Bone up on your comprehension skills.
I said 'Zimmerman is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty' which is a cornerstone of the American justice system.
But I'm sure you already know that.

  • I'm not sure how much it helped Zimmerman get bond, nor am I convinced he didn't deserve it. Crump ought to let the process run its course. I'm not sure airing the raw emotions of the victim's family is helpful at this point.

  • Who is 'deliberting mischaracterizing''?
I never said they were outraged about a fair hearing.
    You say I said that.

Read it again and then you can correct yourself.
I said 'They are 'outraged' that he even got to speak'

They are not in charge of the court proceedings and if the judge allowed a statement from Zimmerman then that is that.
They certainly can express their 'outrage' but legally it means nothing.

  • why does he need 'good luck' it appears that you are hoping for him to get off. I for one am just hoping for a fair trial, let the facts be displayed and a jury of his peers decide the case. No 'luck' about it.

  • Self serving'how many TV shows can these parents get on?

    - cue the outrage of that statement.

  • He needs good luck if he thinks his phony self defense claim will stand up. I hope he fries!
I predict it will not, and I predict he will spend a long time in prison for murder.
