Jesse Jackson Jr. Signs Plea Deal Ending Federal Corruption Investigation

Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), who resigned from Congress last year amid a federal probe into corruption charges, has signed a plea deal within the past week. The details of the deal have not been released but, according to NBC News, the terms allow Jackson to repay the government thousands of dollars that were improperly spent on gifts and travel expenses.

Under the terms of the deal Jackson signed, he pleads guilty and his fate ' as to jail time ' would be in the hands of a federal judge, not yet assigned. He would repay the government hundreds of thousands of dollars ' for items like the $40,000 Rolex watch, travel expenses for a woman he described as a 'social acquaintance' and furniture purchased for his home.

The deal does not deal with infractions allegedly committed by Jackson's wife. Former Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, who also recently resigned her office, may face federal corruption charges as well. Sandi Jackson received a $5,000 per month stipend from her husband for political consulting services.

Jackson resigned his seat in Congress after spending several weeks at a treatment facility last year for what he claimed was a severe case of depression.
